About the team and what we offer

The Climate Change Authority (CCA) is an independent statutory body established to provide balanced, expert, evidence-based advice to the Australian Government on climate change, including through conducting regular and specifically commissioned reviews and through undertaking climate change research.

The Corporate Services Team works collaboratively as a multidisciplinary team to provide strategic and operational services and advice across the agency's finance, procurement and human resource functions and maintain the Authority's corporate governance framework and compliance. The team are also responsible for all security matters across the Authority including ICT and facilities management.

The Finance Advisor will provide day-to-day finance and accounts processing to support CCA's financial, budgeting and reporting requirements and provide advice on a broad range of financial matters on behalf of CCA.

Our ideal candidate

  • Have experience in a finance environment such as accounts payable/receivable, travel, credit card expense management and monthly reconciliation.
  • Have an understanding or the ability to quickly acquire an understanding of the Commonwealth Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013 and other policy or frameworks will be highly regarded.
  • Well-developed organisational skills and demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication.
  • Display strong attention to detail.
  • Have the ability to build productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
  • Show good judgement, analytical and problem solving skills, understanding when to escalate issues.
  • Have the ability to work in a fluid environment, remaining flexible, agile and adaptable supporting colleagues at short notice.
  • Have the ability and willingness to learn quickly and adapt to changing systems and processes.

What you will do

The successful applicant will:

  • Ensure the timely and accurate processing of accounts payable duties including purchasing, invoicing, credit card administration, and creditor management
  • Perform account, system and bank reconciliations
  • Provide support in the provision of a range of financial activities including journal processing, travel processing and CBMS reporting
  • Provide high quality service and support to internal and external clients/stakeholders
  • Participating in and identifying business process/continuous improvement activities and assisting in the implementation and maintenance of policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Perform general administrative duties and provide inter-team support.

Eligibility and security clearance

To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, applicants must:

  • Be an Australian citizen or going to be granted Australian Citizenship before commencement. You may be asked to provide evidence of this.
  • Undertake a pre-employment security assessment and subsequent security clearance. All staff are required to have a minimum baseline security clearance however some roles will require a higher level security clearance. If you are offered a role and do not have a current security clearance, we will work with you to arrange for this to be undertaken.
  • Be medically fit to undertake the duties of the job.

This position requires a Baseline security clearance. The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.

This is an ongoing role. The Authority offers Individual Flexible Arrangements when appropriate and for the most suitable applicant. There are opportunities to consider Flexible Working Agreements.

This process is being used to fill roles that are either non-ongoing or on-going vacancies in the Authority. A merit pool may be established and used to fill future vacancies within the Authority over the next 12 months.
