Fiona Stanley Hospital Marks 10 Years of Care

• Fiona Stanley Hospital marks 10-year anniversary since first opening
• Busy hospital continues to grow to meet the needs of the community
• Staff celebrate milestone with time capsule to be opened in 100 years

Fiona Stanley Hospital is celebrating 10 years of operation, after welcoming the first cohort of patients to the State rehabilitation service on 4 October 2014.

Since then, staff have helped more than 30,500 women deliver their babies and more than 1,500 transplants have been performed, offering new hope to recipients.

There have been more than 200,000 elective and emergency procedures and surgeries and more than 4,000,000 outpatient appointments.

Services have continued to grow each year in response to community demand:

• the number of women delivering babies has grown 38 per cent from 2015-16 (the first full year of operation) to 2023-24;
• the number of in-person outpatient appointments has grown 25 per cent; and
• the number of virtual outpatient appointments has grown 525 per cent, providing people with access to hospital care in the comfort and security of their own homes.

Volunteers are an important part of the hospital fabric and have contributed more than 390,000 hours of service. There are 44 volunteers who have been with the hospital since its opening and will receive 10 years of service certificates this year.

The hospital is a major employer, providing jobs to around 7,900 people. Clinical staff form the biggest part of the workforce and have increased by more than 30 per cent, as services have been added and expanded.

Staff will today mark the milestone with a time capsule to be opened on 4 October 2124.

As stated by Health Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson:

"As the major tertiary hospital south of the river, one of Australia's busiest EDs and with world-class facilities and clinicians, Fiona Stanley Hospital has created a legacy to be proud of.

"As the catchment area grows, the hospital also continues to grow and expand services to meet increased community demand. The Cook Government has added 219 new beds across the southern corridor, with a further 160 beds on the way. This is the equivalent of building a new general hospital.

"Under the Cook Government, the Fiona Stanley Hospital precinct at Murdoch has a bright future.

"We have delivered the Murdoch Health and Knowledge Precinct, added more mental health services to the public health system, are building a new car park, and the new $1.8 billion women and babies hospital."
