In March 2023, the Territory Labor Government split the tri-service of Police, Fire and Emergency Services into two standalone agencies.

This separation was done to modernise how we protect our community, streamlining direction, focus and resources.

Mr Andrew Warton was appointed as interim Chief Executive Officer of the Northern Territory Fire and Emergency Services, and as of today the Lawler Labor Government is proud to appoint Mr Warton as the permanent Commissioner of the Northern Territory Fire and Emergency Services.

Mr Warton was formally a Chief Officer of the Northern Territory Emergency Services and brings a wealth of experience and leadership to the role, specialising in law enforcement and crisis management.

Mr Warton has a strong understand of the Territory's unique weather conditions responding to multiple cyclone emergencies and floods across the jurisdiction.
