Latrobe City Council has engaged communities to work on local fire and mitigation plans in 13 high risk communities.
Council is aware of the local landscape and the significant bushfire risks communities across Latrobe City face. Examples of these risks are high fuel loads in adjacent natural forest, plantations and agricultural operations that add to the potential of fire spotting.
With these risks in mind, Council has been supported by the state-wide Safer Together program to engage consultancy group Fire Risk Consultants.
Together, Council and the consultants are preparing Integrated Community Bushfire Mitigation Plans, with the community's involvement. These plans will help you, your community and Council be informed on reducing bushfire risk and planning for the ongoing threat of bushfire.
More than 4500 letters have been sent across Latrobe City requesting the community's involvement to help identify the priorities for these plans, as relevant to their neighbourhood.
You are invited to attend a community workshop to discuss local fire risk, identification of important community assets, proposed fuel treatment options and mitigation strategies.
