Police have arrested six people and uncovered two loaded firearms during an extended follow through the northern suburbs of Melbourne this morning.
The Dog Squad was patrolling in Broadmeadows when they spotted a BMW X5 in Blair Street about 1am.
The car was of interest to police after it had come to police attention earlier in the week.
Officers called in the Air Wing which picked up the vehicle in Camp Road where it was detected travelling 190km/h in a 60km/h zone.
The vehicle travelled through Campbellfield, Craigieburn, Greenvale and Meadow Heights before one of the occupants threw what appeared to be a bag from the window in Kyabram Street Broadmeadows.
As the Air Wing continued to follow the car police units on the ground found the bag which contained a loaded firearm.
The five occupants abandoned the BMW in Railway Crescent in Dallas where they rendezvoused with another vehicle.
Air Wing officers continued to keep an eye of the Hyundai 130 which was seen to slow in the vicinity of Cuthbert Street where three passengers were let out of the vehicle.
Police on the ground moved in and arrested the trio while the Air Wing continued to follow the Hyundai.
Officers deployed stop sticks at the intersection of Blair and Belfast streets and the car came to a complete stop.
Two males and a female surrendered and were arrested.
A search of the dumped BMW, which was stolen during an aggravated burglary in Cheltenham, uncovered a loaded homemade firearm.
The five men and one woman, ranging in age from 19 to 21, will now be interviewed by police.
