Ararat police have charged two men following an alleged firearms incident at the Buangor State Park last weekend, Victoria Police say.
It is alleged a number of shots were fired from shotguns at the reserve located on Ferntree Gully Rd about 10pm on Saturday 14 January.
No one was injured during the incident, but debris of clay targets and multiple spent shotgun cartridges were left scattered across the State Park.
Police located two men and two shotguns were seized, as well as a large amount of ammunition.
It is believed the men had also trespassed on private land owned by local farmers.
A 33-year-old Malvern man and a 31-year-old Cheltenham man were arrested and interviewed.
They have both been released on summons and are expected to be charged in relation to firearm and trespass offences.
Both men had their firearms licence suspended.
Illegal hunting in state parks is a serious problem which results in significant loss of protected species and damage to the state parks.
Offences against the Firearms Act can result in significant fines, a term of imprisonment and a loss of firearms licence.
Any person planning a hunting trip should research the specific rules for the park they intend to travel to.
