CFA crews at Creswick fire
CFA firefighters continue to support Forest Fire Management Victoria (FFMVic) crews at a bushfire in Creswick in the state's west.
The fire broke out on Monday 16 December just before 5pm on Creswick-Melbourne Road.
With temperatures souring into the 40s and high wind speeds on Monday, the fire grew quickly and has burnt around 191 hectares.
At the peak of the fire on Monday afternoon, FFMVic issued an Emergency Warning along with an Emergency Alert to around 2,200 residents in the area.
Residents at Clarkes Hill, Dean and Wattle Flat were advised to leave immediately.
On Monday there were more than 50 FFMVic and CFA units on scene and 300 firefighters which were supported by five water aircraft and three Large Air Tankers (LATs).
The Emergency Warning was downgraded to a Watch and Act on Monday night around 9.15pm but crews remained on scene overnight.
Favourable weather conditions overnight on Monday assisted crews with the fire attack and the incident was declared contained Tuesday afternoon.
Firefighters remain on scene blacking out any fire activity within the containment lines.
Road assessments are underway which will assist with re-opening roads in the area. Please visit the VicTraffic website for updated road closures.
With fire risk increasing again this Friday (20 Dec), local community members are advised to be prepared and stay informed via the VicEmergency app or website and listen to your local emergency broadcaster.
