The community in Ivanhoe is being given a first look and chance to have their say onAllan Labor Government plans to transform a vacant water tank site into a thriving residential community with hundreds of new homes, close to existing schools, hospitals, jobs, and transport.
The project is set to deliver 275 much-needed homes featuring a range of designs to suit a variety of households and budgets.
Starting with three storeys on the western and southern sides and gradually increasing to twelve storeys at the corner of Upper Heidelberg Road and Bell Street, the proposed tiered architectural design responds to the local neighbourhood and minimises the disruption of sunlight to surrounding homes.
The proposed development will be boosted by private, communal, and public open space, including a new local park, with outdoor seating and garden beds that will replace the much smaller existing park space.
Development Victoria, the Government's property developer, has created a Development Plan based on feedback from the community.
At least 10% of the new homes will be made available to those eligible for affordable housing, giving more housing choice to more Victorians.
The Labor Government's bold Housing Statement reforms are creating the conditions for 800,000 new homes to be built of the next decade, where people want to live - close to jobs, transport and public services.
Located near the Austin Hospital, on the corner of Bell Street and Upper Heidelberg Road, the site will also include a new 2,000 square meter park which will feature a range of community spaces and play areas.
The tank demolition process is expected to commence later this month in preparation for the approved development. Construction on the residential development is targeted for 2026, with the new park to follow.
Council's public exhibition of the draft Development Plan and park concept designs will run from Monday 8 April until Friday 10 May.
