The Snowy Monaro's new and returning councillors met in Cooma yesterday afternoon for the official swearing-in ceremony and first meeting of the new Council term. In their first official act, councillors voted to reappoint Councillor Chris Hanna as our region's Mayor and to elect Councillor Tricia Hopkins as our new Deputy Mayor.

Councillors chose to elect the Deputy Mayor for a term of 12 months. This marks a change from previous years where the position was elected for the same term of office as the Mayor.
Following the mayoral vote in front of a large community audience, councillors also discussed the dates and times for this term's Council meetings, how casual councillor vacancies will be filled, and the appointment of new representatives to the region's many committees.
Council meetings will continue to be held at 1pm on the third Thursday of the month.
