First October Business Month Under New CLP Government

NT Government

October Business Month 2024 (OBM) kicks off tomorrow and with more than 170 events, and an incredible line-up of keynote speakers, promises to be the biggest yet.

This year's program will focus on digitisation, human connection, workforce, growth, leadership, as well as strategy and planning.

Minister for Trade, Business and Asian Relations Robyn Cahill said local businesses were the engine room of our economy.

The Minister said OBM - the first held under the newly elected CLP Government - was part of a wider plan to rebuild the Territory's economy by empowering businesses and making it easier to do business.

"The CLP Government will raise the payroll tax-free threshold for the first time in 13 years from $1.5 million to $2.5 million and exclude apprentice and trainee wages from the cap, a clear example of our support for small business," she said.

"We will also speed up approvals for projects, cutting red tape to remove unnecessary administrative burdens, and a Territory Coordinator will ensure major projects are fought for, started quickly, and completed on time.

"Our plan is to make the Northern Territory the most competitive place in the country to live, work and invest."

OBM will kick off in Darwin with a Territory-wide live streamed event by leading business and finance expert David 'Kochie' Koch on 3 October.

With other notable speakers across the month including Cathy Freeman OAM; award-winning journalist Pip Courtney; television presenter and award-winning author Leigh Sales AM and Dr Alan D. Thompson - a world expert in artificial intelligence (AI).

OBM will also feature a diverse range of Territory business owners and entrepreneurs, each of whom bring their own local story to inspire and share with the business community.
