The building might be under construction, but that isn't stopping Wollert East Kindergarten from taking enrollments for its three- and four-year-old kindergarten program next year.
Wollert resident, Tejaswi Phani, who has recently registered her twins Ayan and Ryan for three-year-old kindergarten in 2022, said she's excited to have a kinder so close to home.
"We moved from Ringwood to Wollert two and a half years ago to buy our first home, which has been good as the twins keep our hands full and there is lots of space," Tejaswi said.
"We're looking forward to them going to kinder - it's so important for their educational and social development - but it's great that the kinder is close too."
The three-room kindergarten is part of the development of the Wollert East Community Centre, which will feature two fully equipped maternal and child health consulting suites, a community hall, meeting spaces for community groups and an outdoor area.
City of Whittlesea Chair Administrator Lydia Wilson said Council clearly understands the importance of access to infrastructure and services that make communities and neighbourhoods great places to call home.
"We are very pleased to be working with the Victorian School Building Authority to create a space for the Wollert community and deliver the services needed for children to flourish," Ms Wilson said.
"I would like to thank the Victorian Government for the Building Blocks grant of $2.75 million, which alongside the City of Whittlesea's investment of $5.65 million, has made this project possible.
"We look forward to welcoming a new cohort of kinder children to the Wollert East Community Centre in January 2022."
Wollert East Community Centre is located on De Rossi Boulevard.
