The NSW Government is partnering with eminent arts organisations to drive the personal, creative and career advancement of five NSW artists through three Fellowship programs.
The five successful Fellows are:
- Visual artist, Julie Rrap - New Dimensions: NSW Visual Arts Established Fellowship with Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA);
- Conductor Leonard Weiss - inaugural Conductor NSW Orchestral (Early Career) Fellowship with Sydney Youth Orchestra;
- Musical theatre artists Vidya Makan, Tasnim Hossain and Jonathan Ware - inaugural group recipients for NSW Musical Theatre (Established) with Hayes Theatre Co.
Minister for the Arts Don Harwin said the investment demonstrates the NSW Government's commitment to creating opportunities to grow the skills of NSW artists and musicians and facilitate the creation of new cultural works.
"In collaboration with our partners, the NSW Government has made this exciting creative development opportunity possible for these five talented NSW artists and musicians," Mr Harwin said.
The New Dimensions: NSW Visual Arts (Established) Fellowship will support Julie Rrap with up to $50,000 in funding; $30,000 will be delivered in financial support from Create NSW to allow Julie to focus on a self-directed professional development program, and also to undertake an additional project or acquisition commission from the MCA up to the value of $20,000. This marks the third year of a partnership between Create NSW and MCA for the New Dimensions: NSW Visual Arts (Established) Fellowship.
The inaugural Conductor (Early Career) Fellow, Leonard Weiss, will receive $30,000 in funding; $20,000 in financial support from Create NSW, with $10,000 in-kind support in the form of mentoring and professional development. Leonard will undertake a broad-ranging professional development over 12 months (part-time) with the Sydney Youth Orchestras, including opportunities to participate in music intensives and camps with established conductors from across the sector and other top industry mentors.
The NSW Musical Theatre (Established) Fellowship group will receive a total of $30,000, consisting of $25,000 in financial support from Create NSW, and in-kind support of up to $5,000 from Hayes Theatre Co. This will support the successful Fellowship team of Vidya Makan, Tasnim Hossain and Jonathan Ware to write a new work for musical theatre. The team will be mentored by industry professionals from Hayes Theatre Co. to work towards bringing their production, Light, to the stage.
