Flash flooding - Central Australia

Police and NT Emergency Services in Central Australia are reminding motorists to take extra care on the roads as heavy rainfall continues in the region.

Superintendent Jody Nobbs said, "Flash flooding can render roads suddenly impassable. Several motorists have already required rescuing from flooded roads, including a family with young children whose sedan became bogged on a flooded remote track near Ti Tree yesterday. Luckily, police were able to rescue them and everyone was safe.

"We advise motorists to reconsider their need to travel in these conditions, but if you must go out, ensure you have a capable vehicle and carry food, water and emergency equipment, even if you're only planning a short trip.

"And always remember, if it's flooded, forget it. It's just not worth the risk."
