Flinders Joins New Playford University Hub

Flinders University students living in Adelaide's north will soon have a new place to study, connect and thrive, with the launch of the Uni Hub Playford.

While construction of the permanent facility at the TAFE SA Elizabeth campus is underway, a temporary site at the Playford Civic Centre Library will open from mid-April 2025, giving students early access to support and services with the university year already underway.

Part of a national initiative of regional and outer suburban locations, study hubs provide study facilities and trained staff to deliver admin, academic skills and wellbeing support for students who are studying a university course.

Flinders representatives, Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Chris Brebner and Senior Director of Student Experience and Management Annika Danielsson, toured the site today, alongside Foreign Minister Senator The Hon Penny Wong MP.

"Flinders has a proud history of breaking down barriers to education, and as a primary partner, Uni Hub Playford is our bold promise to bring world-class learning directly to the heart of the northern suburbs," says Flinders University Vice-Chancellor Professor Colin Stirling.

"We know university isn't a one-size-fits-all journey. That's why our Foundation Studies program is building confidence, developing skills, and creating pathways for students ready to rewrite their future, no matter where they're starting from."

"Through strong connections with local industries, from defence and health to sport and community services, we're ensuring students can chase down their ambitions, gain qualifications, and build their futures - right here in their own backyard."

Research shows less than 10% of people living in the City of Playford have a bachelor's degree or higher, while Elizabeth has an even lower percentage. Flinders is helping address this by creating opportunities in higher education and inspiring students to go after their goals.

This is being achieved with support for study and career choices, building awareness about new and existing programs and pathways, and highlighting Work Integrated Learning opportunities and industry partnerships in the north.

Flinders students will also have direct access to the city campus as the hub will be a ten minute walk to the Elizabeth Train station.
