Recovery from Benalla Rural City's latest flood event is well underway.
Rural and urban roads and key facilities have been reopened after they were forced to close after flood waters peaked early Thursday morning.
Benalla Rural City Council Mayor Bernie Hearn said the community's cooperation and understanding were greatly appreciated as recovery efforts were undertaken.
Faced with its first flood since opening, the Council's recently redeveloped Visitor Information Centre emerged unscathed. While ground-level public toilets were inundated, this was anticipated and incorporated into their design. The toilets were operational by Friday morning.
The Visitor Information Centre was open for business as usual on Thursday with the cinema operating as scheduled.
The Benalla Art Gallery and Benalla Library closed on Thursday but reopened for business on Friday.
Clean up of the Lake Benalla boardwalk and the splash park and surrounds continues. A bridge on the southern end of the Lake Benalla walking track was damaged by flood debris and will remain closed until repairs are undertaken.
Damage to the Benalla Indoor Recreation Centre is being assessed.
"On behalf of the Council I acknowledge the efforts and thank everybody involved in the successful response to the flood event," Cr Hearn said.
