Council is urging the community to be prepared for major disruptions to our road network, particularly in our hinterland areas, with the Bureau of Meteorology predicting a total of up to 200mm of rain across the Shire by Monday.
Avoid travel in our hinterland areas and take extra care on our roads. Following the floods, we have a number of temporary repairs in place across our road network in areas near rivers, bridges and causeways – and these could be further damaged by the rain and may have to be closed without warning.
Also be aware that the rainfall we're experiencing could cause further 'wash outs' which means that underlying damage to roads and causeways may not be visible. Landslides and water over the road can be deadly.
There are also several areas in our hinterland that remain inaccessible to our crews and extreme caution should be taken in these areas.
Our crews will be monitoring at-risk areas and will be ready to repair any damage after the event.

Flood waste collection
Our mass clean-up of all major flood affected areas in the Byron Shire resulted in the collection of over 3500 tonnes of waste. It was a mammoth task – thank you to everyone involved including Council's waste legends, all our contractors and the Australian Defence Force.
