Police alongside the Rural Fire Service and community members have rescued a woman from a vehicle stranded in floodwaters at Glenore Grove this morning, March 10.
Emergency services were called around 8.30am after receiving reports a vehicle was trapped against trees after it had been swept into floodwater along Forrest Hill-Fernvale Road.
It is alleged the woman was attempting to drive through floodwaters on Blind Gully bridge when the incident occurred.
Two police officers entered floodwaters and managed to extract the woman, with the assistance of community and Rural Fire Service, from her vehicle and bring her to safety.
The 69-year-old woman was taken to Ipswich Hospital for treatment to minor injuries and shock.
Darling Downs District Disaster Coordinator Doug McDonald said the incident serves as another reminder, that it does not matter what car you drive, or how big it is, you can still be swept away in floodwaters.
"You cannot drive into floodwaters with the mindset of, 'it'll be all right'. We've seen time again where people think they can make it across, and then end up needing to be rescued," Superintendent McDonald said.
"Poor decisions can put your life; your family's lives and emergency services' lives at risk every time you decide to risk it.
"What our officers have done this morning is very brave given the circumstances."
Superintendent McDonald is again reminding residents to remain vigilant and ensure they are up to date with the latest information provided by emergency services and supporting agencies.
Across the Darling Downs district there are currently officers and emergency services personnel working around the clock to assist ongoing operations.
