Federal Member for Flynn, Colin Boyce has described his 'Flynn Energy Forums' as a massive success.
Mr Boyce hosted guest speaker, Steven Nowakowski for an open discussion on Central Queensland's energy future - including wind, solar, coal-fired power and nuclear last week.
"It was an important opportunity for the communities of Gladstone, Biloela, and Gracemere to have their say about the future of energy in their region," Mr Boyce said.
"These locations are all fundamental to the greater Central Queensland area as each of them have a coal-fired power station nearby that all produce reliable baseload power 24/7.
"Over 230 people attended across the three forums and were able to listen to Mr Nowakowski's presentation where he was able to share his insights on this issue of energy, including his concerns that the hurried deployment of large-scale wind and solar projects might lead to the degradation of high biodiversity landscapes and loss of wildlife.
"There was plenty of interesting discussion about Central Queensland's energy future and the concern of the reckless rollout of renewables.
Mr Boyce said there was also important dialogue around what the local communities of Gladstone, Biloela and Gracemere thought about including nuclear in the energy mix.
"The overwhelming majority of residents at each forum supported the Australian Government having an open discussion about the possibility of industrial and domestic nuclear power," Mr Boyce said.
"I look forward to engaging with local communities further on the issue of energy into the future."
