Football Australia Announces Appointment Of Christine Holman To Board And Adoption Of Constitutional Amendments

Football Australia is pleased to announce the appointment of Christine Holman as an Appointed Director to the Football Australia Board, following ratification by Members at the Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) held on 21 March 2025. Holman's term of office will run until 30 November 2026.

Football Australia also confirms the adoption of constitutional amendments at the same EGM. These amendments reflect the congress members' commitment to ongoing, periodic review and improvement, ensuring that the Football Australia Constitution remains aligned with FIFA and AFC Statutes, adheres to best practice standards for National Sporting Organisations (NSOs), and meets Sport Australia's governance principles - while also leading the way in good governance standards. The revised Constitution provides enhanced clarity, consistency, and legal compliance, introducing structural refinements in key governance areas such as membership, board operations, committees, and judicial bodies.

Holman is a highly experienced non-executive director with over 30 years of expertise spanning media, property, industrial, infrastructure, and technology sectors. She currently serves on the boards of ASX-listed companies AGL Ltd and Collins Foods Ltd, as well as private company Indara Pty Ltd, where she represents Australian Super's largest direct investment.

Football Australia Chair, Anter Isaac, welcomed Holman's appointment, stating: "We are delighted to welcome Christine (Holman) to the Football Australia Board. Christine brings extensive governance, commercial, and strategic expertise, which will be invaluable as we continue to strengthen Australian football at all levels. Her experience across corporate governance, digital transformation, and sustainability will provide significant value to Football Australia's strategic direction."

Holman has a strong track record of leadership in governance and risk management. She is a member of the Corporate Governance Sub-Committee at the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) and has contributed to the 2024 Essential Director Update. Additionally, she holds non-executive roles with the State Library of NSW Foundation and the McGrath Foundation, further demonstrating her commitment to corporate and community engagement.

On her appointment, Christine Holman expressed her enthusiasm for joining Football Australia: "I am honoured to join the Football Australia Board at such an exciting time for the game. Football has a unique ability to unite and inspire communities, and I look forward to contributing my experience in governance, strategy, and digital transformation to support the sport's continued growth and success."

Holman holds an MBA and a Postgraduate Diploma in Management from Macquarie University. She is also a graduate of the AICD and an active member of Chief Executive Women. Her extensive experience in technology, digital platforms, AI, and cybersecurity will be instrumental in driving Football Australia's ongoing digital evolution and governance initiatives.

Football Australia CEO, James Johnson, added: "Christine's deep understanding of corporate strategy, risk management, and emerging technologies aligns with Football Australia's vision for the future. We are confident that her insights and leadership will play a pivotal role in shaping the continued growth and professionalism of football in Australia."

Football Australia also acknowledges the importance of the constitutional amendments passed at the EGM, which reflect the organisation's commitment to strengthening governance structures, improving regulatory alignment, and supporting the long-term sustainability of football in Australia.

Holman officially commences her role as an Appointed Director on the Football Australia Board from 21 March 2025.
