Foreshore Food Truck Fiesta

This summer, locals will have the opportunity to savour a diverse range of flavours while enjoying the beautiful lake vistas. The Lake Illawarra Foreshore Activation Trial aims to activate lakeside recreational spaces placing food trucks alongside local playgrounds, reserves and parks.

Shellharbour City Council is inviting mobile food truck vendors to apply to take part in the six-month trial and receive a special permit to trade in selected public carparks between 8 October 2024 to 8 April 2025, during the hours of 7am - 8pm.

The locations being considered for this foreshore activation are:

1. Reddall Reserve, Lake Illawarra - Allotted Days only

2. Hooker Park, Lake Illawarra

3. Boonerah Point Reserve, Mount Warrigal

4. Ski Way Park, Oak Flats

5. Central Park, Oak Flats

6. Deakin Reserve, Oak Flats

7. Wilson Memorial Park, Albion Park Rail

These locations were chosen for the trial because of the low availability of food and beverage options in the area, whilst also being in close proximity to key public parklands, playgrounds and amenities. The areas will remain alcohol free zones during the trial period.

Local food truck operators are encouraged to apply. Successful applicants will be issued a special permit that allows them to operate their mobile food truck for a maximum of 10 hours at Reddall Reserve (on allotted days only) and 6 hours at all other locations.

Note: Only successful applicants will be permitted to trade at the locations mentioned. Fines will be issues to Food Trucks that trade at the locations without a special permit issued by Council.

Shellharbour City Council CEO Mike Archer is excited to see how this trial will breathe new life into our foreshore.

"Our lakeside areas are beloved by many, and this foreshore activation trial will enhance the experience of our parks and reserves, showcasing local vendors and bringing a diverse range of food and beverage options to these community spaces," he said.

"Sustainability is one of Council's core values and is at the heart of everything we do, so providers that focus on recycling, re-use and sustainability will be preferred."

Applications close on Wednesday 18 September 2024.
