Council has given the green light for the redevelopment of a historic industrial site in Stratford into a new event space.
The former Rankin Sawmill site at 72-90 Magazine Street is set to be transformed into a large function area, which includes the conversion of existing buildings into event spaces.
The proposal includes retrofitting of a 1,320sq/m shed that was used to cut and store timber into a venue for up to 1400 patrons.
Additionally, the heritage-listed Magazine Store building will also be renovated, and along with an outdoor recreational area and deck, will be able to host functions for up to 350 attendees.
Council has placed some conditions on the proposed development, including the provision of more than 100 car parks and dedicated bus spaces, as well as the retrofitting of the buildings to mitigate noise.
The event space will complement an existing bar and distillery operating from one of the other former timber sheds.
