Four charged, including serving police officer, in 'dial-a-dealer' cannabis investigation

A serving officer and three other people have been charged as part of an investigation into the supply of cannabis in Sydney's south-west.

In March 2022, Wetherill Park Region Enforcement Squad (RES) established Strike Force Ince to investigate the activities of a syndicate believed to be involved in 'dial-a dealer'-style supply of cannabis.

During their investigations, a referral was made to the Professional Standard Command, who commenced inquiries in conjunction with Wetherill Park RES.

Following extensive inquiries, strike force investigators, with assistance from Bankstown RES, South West Metropolitan Operations Support Group and Raptor Squad, executed search warrants at Lurnea, Carnes Hill, Liverpool and Busby from 6.20am today (Thursday 25 August 2022).

During the searches, police seized electronic devices, 4.6kg of cannabis, $50,000 cash, vehicles, an electronic stun device, a ballistics vest, and clothing relevant to the investigation.

The items will undergo further examination.

A 31-year-old man – who is a senior constable attached to a specialist command – was arrested at the Carnes Hill home and a 58-year-old woman was arrested at Lurnea.

A short time later, a 27-year-old man was arrested following a vehicle stop on Atkinson Street, Liverpool, and a 42-year-old man was arrested at a home on Galloway Street, Busby.

All three men were taken to Cabramatta Police Station, where the younger two were each charged with supply prohibited drug (indictable quantity) and knowingly direct a criminal group. The 27-year-old man was also charged with deal with proceeds of crime.

The 42-year-old man was charged with take part supply cannabis, participate criminal group contribute criminal activity, three counts of supply prohibited drug, knowingly deal with proceeds of crime, possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit and take part supply prohibited drug.

They've been refused bail to appear before Fairfield Local Court tomorrow (Friday 26 August 2022).

The woman was taken to Liverpool Police Station, where she was charged with hinder discovery evidence regarding serious indictable offence and obstruct/hinder person executing warrant.

The woman was granted conditional bail and is due to appear before Liverpool Local Court on Thursday 22 September 2022.

Investigations under Strike Force Ince continue.
