Four New Medicare Mental Health Centres For NSW

Department of Health

People across the Blacktown, Campbeltown, Broken Hill and Central Darling regions of New South Wales will soon have free, walk-in mental health support and care with the opening of four new Medicare Mental Health Centres.

The Medicare Mental Health Centres will provide on-the-spot support for people in distress and ongoing care for more complex mental health needs.

Staffed by multidisciplinary care teams, including social workers, nurses, and peer support workers, they will provide wraparound support and care across extended hours.

To boost access to specialist care, the Albanese Government is investing an additional $29.9 million to provide access to psychologists and psychiatrists on call for every centre.

To respond to growing need, the government is rolling out 61 Medicare Mental Health Centres across the country, including 22 in New South Wales.

The Federal Albanese Government is providing a total of $17.1 million to open the four new centres. The NSW Minns Government will contribute $1.1 million towards the Blacktown centre and $4.2 million towards the Broken Hill and the Central Darling centres.

The services are expected to open from the middle of 2025. Exact locations will be determined following community consultation and co-design.
