Free Caravan Safety Workshop: Sharpen Towing Skills

Kempsey Shire Council

Before you hit the open road with your caravan, there's one question you need to ask yourself: am I towing safely and legally? Whether you're a seasoned traveller or a first-time caravanner, Kempsey Shire Council is offering a FREE caravan safety event.

Event Details:

  • Where: South West Rocks Country Club
  • When: 8 March 2025
  • Session Times: 9:30 AM & 1:30 PM (2-hour sessions with Q&A)

This event, run by Getabout Training services, will equip you with expert knowledge and hands-on skills to handle your caravan like a pro.

Towing a caravan is more than just hitching up and hoping for the best. Understanding weights, mass, and dimensions is crucial - not just for your safety but for everyone else on the road.

What You'll Learn:

  • How trailers move with your vehicle (spoiler: they have a mind of their own!)
  • The art of manoeuvring and reversing without a panic attack
  • Turning safely without taking out the curb (or a fence)
  • Parking like a pro
  • Coupling and uncoupling the right way

Rhys Jones, Road Safety Officer at Kempsey Shire Council, emphasises the importance of proper towing skills:

"A little knowledge can go a long way when it comes to towing. We've seen too many trips turn into disasters simply because drivers weren't aware of weight limits or how their caravan behaves on the road. This workshop is all about giving people the confidence to tow safely, so their biggest worry is choosing the best camping spot—not their reversing skills."

Spots are limited, so don't miss out—secure your place today and tow with confidence!
