Wyndham City will celebrate International Women's Day on Saturday 8 March, join the series of free events and activities planned over the course of the week at locations across Wyndham.
Wyndham City Mayor, Cr Mia Shaw, said International Women's Day celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women and also serves as a call to action for accelerating gender equality.
"International Women's Day asks us to reflect on progress made, to call for change and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities," Cr Shaw said.
"Karin Keays will be speaking at the Civic Centre on Thursday 6 March about her book: 'It's Because I Love You' commencing the week's events."
"It is the first of two memoirs, where she shares her life as the wife and business partner of Australian music legend, Jim Keays."
"It is a real-life rock 'n' roll romance and possibly the first such book to be written from the unique perspective of a woman who lived and worked for 25 years in the inner sanctum of rock 'n' roll royalty."
Ms Keays' inspirational story also refers to the loss of her child and her journey of healing and learning to trust her own intuition in the face of compelling opposition - it is a reminder to all women of the importance of retaining their own personal power, for the greater good of all.
"International Women's Day events celebrate this year's theme 'March Forward - turning promises into progress' and I encourage women to take part in the activities and events on offer that are open to the community."
