The City of Greater Bendigo is holding four, free Cyber Resilience sessions where residents, especially older residents, can learn how to protect themselves from scams and stay safe online.
City of Greater Bendigo Community Partnerships Manager Andie West said scams are widespread nowadays and many unsuspecting people are falling victim to them.
"The best way to avoid being scammed is to arm yourself with the information you need to avoid them and stay safe online," Ms West said.
"The sessions will help people to identify and avoid common phone scams, protect their devices and securely save passwords, spot spam and scams in text messages, emails and posts and discover sites and apps that can help them improve their overall cyber security. Participants will also be able to record a message to play back to a scammer.
"The sessions are free, but bookings are essential and a great opportunity for our local residents to learn some important information."
Four sessions will be presented by IDCARE Australia and New Zealand's national identity and cyber support service who provide free expert and specialised support when faced with a cyber and identity related issue.
