- Much-loved Perth Royal Show made more affordable
- New app allows families to choose from '101 Free Things to See and Do'
- $5.2 million in Cook Government funding means free entry for children
The Perth Royal Show kicks off today, with free kids' tickets and attractions making the show more affordable for Western Australian families.
The Cook Government is supporting families to enjoy the excitement of a day out at the show, with free admission for children aged 15 and under, and half-price tickets for adults and concession holders. The $5.2 million investment will mean an adult and four children can attend the show for just $22.
Ticket sales are strong, with the Show on track to have its biggest turn out in 10 years.
The funds will also support the free nightly fireworks spectacular, which is set to be the biggest in the show's history. Fireworks will be launched from 100 locations, along with a spectacular agriculture-themed drone show.
In addition, the Royal Agricultural Society (RASWA) has released a new Perth Royal Show app which includes a list of'101 Free Things to See and Do'plus an interactive map of the show and a schedule of all the free entertainment across the week.
Some of the free highlights include performances from Spare Parts Puppet Theatre, Monster Trucks WA, Freestyle Motocross, cooking at the Foodbank Kids Kitchen and shows from Scitech.
Every year the Perth Royal Show brings the country to the city and families can discover century-old farm machinery at the Heritage Hall, wander through the Dairy Pavilion and sample delicious Western Australian produce as well as meet the baby piglets and goats at the animal nursery.
There are also plenty of budget-friendly food options at this year's show, including a classic cheese toastie made with award winning Western Australian cheese and butter for $4, available at The Dairy Pavilion and Feasting Barn, or a $5 sausage sizzle up at AgVenture Hill. Showgoers can also indulge in free samples of WA produce or take home the iconic Bertie Beetle showbag which returns this year.
As stated by Premier Roger Cook
"A day out at the show is a rite of passage for Western Australians and we want to make sure as many people can enjoy the show as possible.
"We know people are doing it tough due to the cost of living, so my Government is offering free and discounted tickets to allow more families to enjoy this iconic WA event.
"It's easy to enjoy an affordable day out at the show, with dozens of free attractions and wallet-friendly food on offer, and I encourage families to use the Perth Royal Show app to plan a day out on a budget."
