Free Monthly Movies For Shire's Older Audiences

Older Corangamite Shire residents are invited to enjoy good company, morning tea and some Aussie movies in coming months.

Coordinator of positive Ageing & Inclusion Belinda Rowbottom said Council would show a free movie on the first Tuesday of each month.

"As part of our active senior's program, we will be holding a "Movie a Month" throughout the Shire,"

"Our first two movies will at the Killara Centre in Camperdown and we aim to get on the road to other towns later in the year.

"On Tuesday 4 February we will show 'The Sapphires' from 10am-12pm.

"On Tuesday 4 March we will screen 'The Dish'. Other upcoming titles will be announced closer to the date.

Positive Ageing & Inclusion Service Navigator Lesa Best added: "Entry is free for senior residents and there will be popcorn and ice-cream for the old-fashioned cinema experience. Get your friends together or just bring yourself and meet some new people for a fun day out.

"Bookings are essential, so please call 5593 7100 and ask for Belinda or Lesa."

The Sapphires (2012) is based on the true story of four vivacious, talented Indigenous singers from a remote mission who entertain US troops in Vietnam in 1968. Cynthia (Miranda Tapsell), Gail (Deborah Mailman), Julie (Jessica Mauboy) and Kay (Shari Sebbens) are discovered by good-natured talent scout Dave (Chris O'Dowd). In Vietnam as they their first taste of stardom and learn about love, friendship and war.

The Dish (2000) is a historical comedy-drama directed by Rob Sitch. It tells the true story of the Parkes Observatory's crucial role in relaying live television of the Apollo 11 moon landing in 1969. The film stars Sam Neill as Cliff Buxton, the observatory's director, along with Kevin Harrington, Tom Long, and Patrick Warburton. The plot revolves around the quirky and dedicated team at the observatory as they navigate technical challenges, cultural differences, and unexpected obstacles to ensure the world can witness Neil Armstrong's historic first steps on the moon.
