City of Darwin wishes to advise that the free parking trial in Zone A and Zone B in the Darwin city centre finishes today, Friday 28 February 2025.
On-street parking has been free in Zones A and B after 3pm on Mondays until Fridays since December 2024, making it easier for people to shop, dine and explore the city.
Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said City of Darwin will now review the data to measure the success of the trial.
"Our aim was to support local businesses in the lead up to Christmas and during the quieter non-peak visitor months by offering free parking in Zone A and Zone B in the Darwin city centre," Mr Vatskalis said.
"Our goal was to support local businesses by making it easier for residents and visitors to come into the city centre," Mr Vatskalis said.
"We understand the challenges businesses face during the non-peak season, and we hoped that free parking would make it easier people to visit, shop and dine locally.
"We will now speak to retail representatives to understand success of the trial, as well as review the relevant data and statistics." he said.
While the free parking trial has concluded, weekend parking remains free throughout the city, except in Zone A on Saturdays from 8am to 2pm. All zones are free and unrestricted from 2pm Saturday and all-day Sunday.
