In anticipation of the Local Government Week 2024 celebrations next week, Leeton Shire Council is pleased to announce an additional service free of charge to the community.

From Monday, 5 August, to Friday, 9 August, Council's Rangers will be offering free microchipping for cats and dogs during business hours. Pet owners can take advantage of this service by calling Council on 6953 0911, asking for the Rangers, and booking in a suitable time.

This initiative underscores Council's commitment to animal welfare and responsible pet ownership.

Mayor Cr Tony Reneker reiterated the importance of microchipping as a simple yet effective way to ensure lost pets can be quickly reunited with their families.

This added service complements the range of activities held during Local Government Week (from 29 July – 4 August), such as the Local Government themed Storytime Session at the Leeton Shire Library on Wednesday, 31 July (10.30am – 11.30am). The session will see Mayor Reneker and one of Council's outdoor staff reading stories to children, followed by a hands-on exploration of Council machinery in the Leeton Shire Library carpark.

Mayor Reneker highlighted that Local Government Week provides an excellent platform to showcase the diverse services and faciltiies Council offers, from managing roads and waste to maintaining parks, libraries, childcare centres, and more.
