Darwin residents have the chance to snap up some free native plants thanks to City of Darwin's popular native plant giveaway program.
More than 2000 native plants will be available at Holtzerland Park in Malak on Saturday 14 September.
City of Darwin Chief Executive Officer Simone Saunders said the native plant giveaways contributed to shading and greening the municipality.
"We are committed to creating a cool, clean and green city and our native plant giveaways provide residents the opportunity to nurture their local environment," Ms Saunders said.
"The native plant giveaways are great for people who are just starting to create a green space at home, or for those who want to add to an already established garden.
"Planting native plants has many benefits including establishing wildlife habitats and creating a healthy, biodiverse neighbourhood.
"These events are always very popular, and stocks are limited so I suggest arriving early to ensure you don't miss out," she said.
There will be more than 2000 native forestry tube stock plants available, including trees, shrubs and grasses.
City of Darwin will provide more than 15,000 free plants to residents this financial year through the native plant giveaways.
This is supported by the revegetation of key biodiversity areas with more than 4,000 native plants and more than 400 street and park trees planted across the municipality.
The native plant giveaway will run from 8am to 11am with plants available to Darwin residents only.
There is a limit of six plants per household. Proof of Darwin residency must be provided.
