Darwin residents have the chance to snap up some free native plants thanks to City of Darwin's popular native plant giveaway program.
More than 2000 native plants will be available at The Esplanade in the Darwin City Centre on Saturday 12 October 2024.
Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said the native plant giveaways provided residents an opportunity to play an active role in nurturing their local environment.
"The native plant giveaways provide an excellent chance for residents to connect with their environment and contribute to the greening of our city," Mr Vatskalis said.
"Native plants beautify our homes and also play a crucial role in supporting local wildlife and enhancing our urban biodiversity.
"We are dedicated to making Darwin a cooler, cleaner, and greener city and the native plant giveaways contribute to our efforts to enhance, preserve and protect Darwin's natural environment.
There will be a range of plants available, including native trees, shrubs and grasses.
City of Darwin will provide more than 15,000 free plants to residents this financial year through the native plant giveaways.
This is supported by the revegetation of key biodiversity areas with more than 4,000 native plants and more than 400 street and park trees planted across the municipality.
The native plant giveaway will run from 8am to 11am with plants available to Darwin residents only.
There is a limit of six plants per household. Proof of Darwin residency must be provided.
