Free Tellie In Tassie Hospitals

Guy Barnett, Minister for Health

Free TV is on the way for patients in Tasmanian hospitals, delivering on a key election commitment.

Free TV has already been implemented at the Kblock at Royal Hobart Hospital and the North West Regional Hospital. From 3 July, it will also be in place at the other major hospitals in Tasmania.

Minister for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Guy Barnett, said that the antiquated system, which is still in place across most other Australian hospitals, needed to change, and the Tasmanian Government has taken strong action to do just that.

"Being sick in hospital isn't fun and neither was the added burden on Tasmanians who had to dig into their back pocket to pay for tellie," Minister Barnett said.

"Moving forward from 3 July, we will be picking up the tab for TV in all of our major hospitals so sick Tasmanians can enjoy what should just be part of the service.

"We made this commitment under our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future and have delivered on it within our first 100 days of Government – to the benefit of Tasmanians."
