Young people in Colac Otway can boost their hospitality skills and job prospects with a free training opportunity in Colac.
The Food Handling Course on 16 April will give people aged 15 to 25 the skills they need to work or volunteer with food.
Participants will learn about food safety, preparation, serving food, hygiene and more.
Colac Otway Shire Council's Community Services Manager Ashish Sitoula said the course was ideal for young people seeking employment in hospitality or food preparation, or for people who handle food while volunteering.
"Having these skills will be a big boost for young people's employment prospects, enabling them to fill key roles in our community," Mr Sitoula said.
"Everyone who works with food needs to ensure that the food they prepare or sell is safe to eat, and the food handling course is an ideal introduction," he said.
"This is a great way to kick-start a career in food, alongside like-minded young people in a supportive environment."
The course is on Wednesday 16 April from 9.30am to 1.30pm at the Colac Neighbourhood House, 23 Miller Street, Colac.
Places are limited. Registrations are online at https://colacotwayyouthfoodhandlingcourse.eventbrite.com.au
Attendees will need to provide a Unique Student Identifier number to complete the training.
