Free Vaccination Seminar for Smallholder Livestock Owners

City of Greater Bendigo and Agriculture Victoria are holding a free vaccination and biosecurity planning seminar for smallholder sheep, goat and alpaca owners.

The seminar will take place from 6pm to 8pm on Wednesday August 30, 2023 at the Quality Hotel Lakeside, 286 Napier Street Bendigo and will include presentations from Agriculture Victoria Veterinary Officers Dr Hayden Morrow and Dr Berwyn Squire.

Topics to be discussed at the seminar include:

  • The role of vaccination
  • Vaccination best practice for handling, storage, administration and vaccination techniques
  • Key things to consider when choosing a vaccine
  • Pre-lambing vaccination
  • How does vaccination fit into your biosecurity management plan

City of Greater Bendigo Climate Change and Environment Manager Michelle Wyatt said good biosecurity practices are important because they promote food security, good animal welfare, and minimise the risk of transmission of infectious diseases.

"Practices and habits on properties to reduce the risk of disease is very important and I encourage all small sheep, goat and alpaca owners in the wider Greater Bendigo area to register for this free seminar," Ms Wyatt said.

Agriculture Victoria District Veterinary Officer Dr Hayden Morrow said he encouraged livestock owners in the Greater Bendigo area to register for this free seminar to gain valuable information on vaccinations and biosecurity planning.

"We believe this is a great opportunity and will provide sheep, goat and alpaca owners with essential knowledge to help maintain healthy and productive animals," said Dr Morrow.

The seminar is free to attend and refreshments will be provided to participants. To register go to https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/vaccination-and-biosecurity-workshop-for-sheep-goat-and-alpaca-owners-tickets-691408480377?aff=oddtdtcreator
