Fremantle's credentials as one of the country's top tourist destinations will be showcased to a national audience when the city competes in the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards to be held in Sydney next year.
The City of Fremantle qualified for the national awards after being awarded a gold medal in the Tourism Marketing and Campaign Award category for the THIS IS FREMANTLE destination marketing brand at the 2022 Perth Airport WA Tourism Awards on Saturday.
The Tourism Marketing and Campaign Award recognises creativity and innovation in the promotion of tourism products, services or destinations.
The City of Fremantle was also awarded a gold medal in the Excellence in Local Government Tourism category for the second year running.
Mayor Hannah Fitzhardinge said it was exciting to be given the opportunity to sell the Fremantle story on a national stage.
"The THIS IS FREMANTLE brand and the campaigns and activations associated with it have been really important in attracting visitors and supporting our local traders as we emerge from Covid," Mayor Fitzhardinge said.
"These awards recognise the hard work and determination of Fremantle's businesses and tourism operators who have partnered with us and our Destination Marketing Working Group on many activations and campaigns.
"We also greatly value our partnerships with tourism organisations including Destination Perth, Tourism WA, Business Events Perth and Tourism Council of WA in supporting our work and telling the world what a wonderful place Fremantle is to visit."
Fremantle will also be represented at the Australian Tourism Awards in Sydney by Fremantle Prison and SeaLink WA.
Fremantle Prison qualified by winning the gold medal for Major Tourism Attraction, while Sealink WA took out the Sir David Brand Award for the most outstanding tourism operator.
The awards come after Fremantle was recently named by TIME Magazine as one of the 50 greatest places in the world in 2022.
