Established in the late 1970s, Mayor Glenn Docherty said Fremont Park has continued to grow alongside the city, with this stage of redevelopment following upgrades in 2017 and 2020.
"We were established as a garden city and we know this element of our landscape is still important to our community," said Mayor Docherty.
"This newly upgraded space will further elevate Fremont as Playford's premier park, supporting our ever-growing city with a green, urban retreat, allowing people to get outside and socialise with family and friends."
The first stage of the upgrade, opening this Thursday, features newly irrigated lawns, gazebo, new parking areas, toilets and extensive landscaping. The next stage will include two new dog parks - a first for the Elizabeth area - expected to be open to the community by the end of September.
"We know the dog parks will be a very popular addition to the Elizabeth area, giving residents - and their pets - the chance to enjoy Fremont Park in a new, dog-friendly way," Mayor Docherty said.
"While most of the upgraded area is now open to the public, we are allowing the newly laid turf in the dog parks additional time to properly establish and develop strong roots. This is important so it can withstand the impact of all the two and four-legged foot traffic we expect in the park over spring and summer."
