Detectives from the Fugitive Squad are appealing for public assistance to locate escapee Benjamin Shoppee.
The 46-year-old is wanted after escaping a correctional facility in Fairfield yesterday.
The man had been on day leave at a café in Fairfield in the company of two members of staff from the facility when he fled around 1.30pm.
A significant search was then undertaken in the area, however he was unable to be located and that search remains ongoing.
He was last sighted wearing a black t-shirt with a dragon on the front, white pants and white runners.
Investigators have released an image of Shoppee in the hope that someone may be able to provide information on his current whereabouts.
He is described as Caucasian in appearance, clean shaven, 182cm tall with a medium build and white/brown hair.
He has previously frequented the Prahran and St Kilda areas however his current whereabouts are unknown.
Anyone who sights Shoppee is asked not to approach him and to contact triple zero (000) immediately.
Detectives are also urging Shoppee to make contact with police or hand himself in at any police station as soon as possible.
