The Northern Territory Police Force are delivering strong results with the Fugitive Task Force, which has been deployed to Katherine as part of ongoing efforts to target offenders and enhance community safety.
The task force is currently operating with 15 officers with a focus on apprehending offenders and addressing recidivist offenders in the region.
In its first 48 hours in Katherine, the task force has arrested 36 people in connection with various offences.
Of those arrested:
- 11 have been remanded in custody.
- 6 matters have been finalised in court.
- 12 remain in police custody as investigations continue.
- 7 have been granted bail by the courts
Superintendent Lee Morgan said, "The Fugitive Task Force will continue to target recidivist offenders and focus on disrupting criminal activity to improve safety in the community.
"Outstanding offenders across the Territory will be targeted, apprehended and placed before the court.
"The Fugitive Task Force will not only target persons with outstanding warrants we will strive to apprehend anyone that has had their parole revoked, breached their bail or is wanted for committing fresh offences."
