Fugitives Nabbed Fleeing Police in Essendon

Police have arrested a man and woman who ran from a dumped stolen car in Essendon this morning.

The stolen car, with cloned plates, was first spotted by police driving erratically in Widford Street Broadmeadows shortly before 1.30am.

Officers lost sight of the car before the Air Wing was called in to assist.

Arial scans of the area picked up the Honda Accord driving at speed and running red lights on Mount Alexander Road in Essendon, Pascoe Vale Road in Glenroy and then onto Keilor Road in Niddrie.

A police member was lucky to escape injury when the driver of the car swerved towards him as he attempted to deploy stop sticks.

A second attempt on Keilor Road was successful before the car came to a stop in a shopping centre carpark off Mount Alexander Road.

The pair ran from the scene into Woodlands Park where they were swiftly arrested without incident by police.

The driver of the car, a 40-year-old man from Dallas, and his passenger, a 48-year-old woman from Essendon, will now be interviewed by police.
