Townsville community organisations have received a funding boost through Townsville City Council's Grants and Partnerships Program.
South Pacific Taekwondo Club has received a $50,000 Community Grant to expand its 'Resilience Hero Project' aimed at providing training and mentoring for students who would otherwise not be able to fund their training.
Other Community Grants approved up to $5,000 include:
- Townsville Gem and Mineral Club allocated a venue hire waiver for their annual Gem and Mineral Show
- Queensland Youth Services granted support towards their Youth Week Community Event
- Long Tan Legends Aussie Masters granted funding for their 2024 Masters Swimming NQ Championships
- The Kerala Association of Townsville allocated support for The New Year festival of Kerala, India event.
The Townsville Community Music Centre had their $50,000 per annum Community Organisation Partnership funding approved for to assist with operational costs from 2024 to 2026.
Other Community Organisation Partnership funding approved include:
- Yimiri Limited towards operational costs of $22,817.27 to fund their free Community Wellness Program – Meditation and Breathwork classes at Riverway Precinct
- North Queensland Touch Association for in kind venue hire and cash support totalling $24,401.88 for their Junior State Cup North 2024
- Townsville Cinema Group Inc to cover venue hire and website design costs for $7,800 in 2024, to help grow the Townsville Cinema Group
- Afrekete Inc towards operational costs of $24,787.37 for the Afrekete Afro-Cuban Dance and Music Festival – Island Edition
- Townsville Monsoons Volleyball Club to cover in kind costs of $12,500 for the Club's indoor tournaments and camps.
Mayor Troy Thompson said the grants and partnerships awarded at the Ordinary Council meeting held on Tuesday 23 April, are examples of how Council embraces and participates in the arts, sports, events and recreational activities.
"Council is proud to support Townsville events, workshops and sporting events for our community, helping to grow Townsville's reputation as a city with an engaged community," Cr Thompson said.
"The grants and partnerships awarded reflect the positive contributions our community organisations make to our city."
