Funding Boost for Women and Girls' Sport Approved

Department of Health

Following a highly competitive grant opportunity, the Australian Government has announced the outcomes of the final stream of the program. The demand far exceeded the available funding.

We will offer funding under the facilities stream to 166 organisations nationwide. They will use the funding for investments in facilities that will remove barriers for women and girls to participate in sport.

This follows an earlier announcement of funding to 124 organisations to provide sport participation programs and much needed equipment for women and girls.

Successful projects across both streams will maximise the opportunity for women and girls to access, participate, and remain involved in sport and physical activity. This will be achieved by funding local solutions that:

  • remove barriers
  • reduce discrimination
  • promote equality.

Many of the projects receiving funding target women and girls who face additional barriers to participation in sport and physical activity. This includes women and girls who:

  • have a disability
  • live in regional or remote areas of Australia
  • are First Nations peoples
  • come from culturally and linguistically diverse communities.

Funding will be delivered nationwide, covering more than 90 sports. We will publish a full list of grant recipients from both streams on our website once all grant agreements are in place.
