- Funding boost of $1.075m extends regional performing arts program
- Program extended from 2025-2027 to support new and emerging presenters
- Performances toured to outer metropolitan areas and regional Western Australia
The Cook Government has provided a $1.075m funding boost to extend the long running performing arts program Shows on the Go for another two and a half years.
Delivered by CircuitWest since July 2021, the funding of $430,000 per annum will continue the delivery of the touring program to outer metropolitan and regional communties through to June 2027.
The touring program supports experienced producers who have strong track records of touring, to partner with new and emerging presenters to take performances to outer metropolitan areas and regional Western Australia.
Productions also tour with a technical expert who can offer structured mentoring to local venue technical staff and volunteers.
CircuitWest guides new presenters through the process of presenting, including programming for their communities, choosing the appropriate venue for the work, community engagement and engaging with First Nations artists.
The program has toured to 36 unique presenters in outer metropolitan and regional areas since 2021.
Tours planned for 2025 include Taking Liberty from THEATRE 180 and the WA Museum, and The Adventures of Alvin Sputnik: Deep Sea Explorer by The Last Great Hunt.
As stated by Culture and the Arts Minister David Templeman:
"Shows on the Go is a gateway program for presenters to build their capacity, have a positive experience and build their enthusiasm to deliver performing arts events for their community.
"Prioritised programming is also given to First Nations companies, productions and artists to help develop increased understanding of cultural protocols and cultural safety.
"This extended funding will ensure that performing arts continues to be delivered statewide with an emphasis on working consistently with, and developing more, outer-metro presenters and reactivating smaller presenters located in regional WA."
