Victorians wanting to pursue a career in the new energy sector will soon have access to cutting-edge training thanks to a new project funded by the Andrews Labor Government.
Minister for Training and Skills Gayle Tierney today visited Larkin Electrical & Data in Mordialloc to announce a $2.3 million grant to deliver a new energy skills training project.
At a time when so many Victorians are installing solar panels, and the number of battery storage system installations is rapidly increasing, this training is vital to meet the needs of the growing new energy technology sector.
The New Energy Technology Systems Project is being led by Future Energy Skills in partnership with Holmesglen Institute, Federation Training, The Gordon, NECA Education and Careers and Green Business Audit and Training (GBAT).
This project will design a new course in New Energy Technology Systems, develop training and assessment materials and an e-learning solution, and prepare a workforce ready to perform this skilled work.
The pilot program will be delivered to 120 participants by five specialist training providers in regional Victorian and metropolitan Melbourne.
The Labor Government will help Victorian households cut their electricity bills through the Solar Homes Package, which will be delivered by the newly established Solar Victoria.
To make it easier to access training and pathways to an apprenticeship, the Labor Government is investing $172 million to make 30 priority TAFE courses and 20 pre-apprenticeship courses that lead to jobs that are most in demand from Victorian employers tuition free.
