In a significant investment towards the betterment of our rural townships, Benalla Rural City Council has awarded a collective sum of $482,462 to 15 volunteer organisations within Benalla Rural City.
Funding made available through the Australian Government's Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program, has been instrumental in supporting the completion of various projects aimed at enhancing the infrastructure and overall well-being of our rural townships.
Mayor Cr Danny Claridge expressed his gratitude for the Australian Government.
"We are thrilled to have received this support from the Australian Government, which plays a vital role in strengthening our rural villages. Preserving and enhancing infrastructure projects in these townships is essential for the prosperity and well-being of our local communities," Cr Claridge said.
Several projects have already been successfully completed, showcasing the tangible impact of the funding:
- Moorngag Hall and Recreation Reserve: Front boundary fence replacement.
- Warrenbayne Recreation Reserve Inc: Internal painting of the hall.
- Lima South Community Hall Committee of Management: Installation of an energy-efficient air conditioning system.
- Boweya Community: Boweya Community Centre water capacity upgrade.
- Lurg Hall and Recreation Reserve Committee: Internal Painting of Old Lurg School.
- Swanpool Memorial Hall and Reserve: Asphalt and paving upgrade.
- Swanpool Bowling Club: Painting and floor covering renovation.
- Tatong Community Centre and Recreation Reserve: Tatong Community Revitalisation Project.
One standout success is the transformation of the Baddaginnie Jubilee Hall, which now shines brighter than ever after receiving a $50,000 contribution from the LRCI Program.
"The Baddaginnie Jubilee Hall improvements, including a brand-new roof, air conditioning units, external blinds, a new fence, outdoor picnic tables, and indoor furniture, have contributed to the remarkable revitalisation of this community hub. The recent external painting has added the perfect finishing touch," Cr Claridge said.
"Another notable achievement is at the Molyullah Recreation and Public Hall Reserve Inc, where the community takes pride in regularly coming together for the children to play and the adults to enjoy each other's company. The recent addition of a new playground and undercover area has significantly enhanced the overall enjoyment of these communal gatherings," he said.
Independent Federal Member for Indi Helen Haines MP said she was delighted to welcome the federal funding which had been put to good use.
"Community halls and recreation facilities serve multiple purposes in our regional and rural communities. They often house a variety of local volunteer-led organisations and play an important role during times of emergency," Dr Haines said.
"The future of these venues has been secured through the delivery of this funding and I celebrate with these communities."
While not all projects have reached completion, the Council remains committed to collaborating with volunteer groups to ensure the successful delivery of these initiatives. The ongoing dedication to enhancing local infrastructure underscores the council's commitment to creating sustainable improvements in the region.
