The City of Ryde has recently been successful in obtaining funding from Transport for NSW to deliver the following programs:
2024/25 Australian Government Black Spot Program
The City of Ryde has secured a significant $1.4 million in grant funding from the Australian Government 2024/25 Black Spot Program for five (5) important road works projects within the Local Government Area.
The works to be undertaken as part of the 2024/25 Australian Government Black Spot program are:
- Waterloo Road, Marsfield ($130,000): At Vimiera Road and Culloden Road, and Culloden Road at Talavera Road intersections, install raised thresholds
- Quarry Road, Ryde ($250,000): From Olive Street to Badajoz Road, improve deflection angle of existing roundabout, install slow point raised threshold/horizontal deviation at mid-block location and conflict points (intersections and pedestrian crossings)
- Denistone Road at Ryde Hospital ($300,000): Install raised islands with additional stop or give-way, pedestrian fencing on kerb, raised threshold and pedestrian crossing (wombat crossing)
- Chatham Road and West Parade, Denistone ($460,000): From Dickson Avenue to Hillview Road and Hillview Road from West Parade to 0.1km north, install raised thresholds, pedestrian refuge with kerb blisters and a one lane roundabout (including all traffic calming, line marking, lighting and signage)
- Parkes Avenue from Falconer Street to Lee Avenue, Ryde ($260,000): Install slow point, raised threshold / horizontal deviation at mid-block location and conflict points (intersections and pedestrian crossings), move stop or give-way lines forward using kerb extensions
All the above works are scheduled to be completed by 30 June 2026.
2024-2025 Safe Speed Program
The City of Ryde has secured $570,000 funding grant through the NSW Government's 2024/25 Safer Speed Program that will be used to implement a 40km/h high pedestrian activity area within the Eastwood Town Centre, including the provision of traffic and pedestrian safety devices.
The above works are scheduled to be completed by 30 June 2025.
2024/25 Get NSW Active Program
Council has also secured $594,500 funding grant through the NSW Government's 2024/25 Get NSW Active Program.
These funds will be used to construct a raised pedestrian crossing on See Street, between Angas and Stone Streets, Meadowbank, and on Argyle Avenue, Ryde, near Ryde Park.
The above works are scheduled to be completed by 30 June 2025.
City of Ryde CEO Wayne Rylands said the funding grants will provide great outcomes for the Ryde community.
"This significant funding from our State and Federal Governments will make some of our busiest roads safer for both drivers and pedestrians," he said.
"I'd like to thank the NSW Government and Council staff for working together collaboratively on these programs and I look forward to the delivery of the projects."
