Getting healthy and active will become even easier, after the NSW Government announced more than $1.2 million funding for Camden as part of the third and final stage of the Get NSW Active program.
The Get NSW Active program provides local councils with funding for projects that create safe, easy and enjoyable walking and cycling trips, with Camden set to construct the following paths:
- Jamboree Avenue, Leppington unsignalised crossing - $201,000;
- Waterworth Drive, Narellan Vale (near Narellan Vale Public School) footpath widening - $74,000;
- Kavanagh Street, Gregory Hills refugee crossing - $125,000;
- Crookstan Drive, Camden South refuge island - $60,000;
- Coghill Street to Queen Street, Narellan footpath - $80,000;
- Camden Valley Way, Gledswood Hills shared path - $450,000;
- Argyle Street, Camden pedestrian facilities - $123,000; and
- Cobbitty Road, Cobbitty Public School disability access - $93,000.
Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli, said the funding will make it safer for people to walk and cycle safely around the Camden area.
"Camden continues to grow and it's important Council investigates options in meeting the growing demand for infrastructure," Cr Fedeli said.
"The Get NSW Active program funding is much needed and will go towards projects that have been earmarked for some time.
"For children, older people, parents or people with disabilities, a street without a footpath is both inconvenient and a barrier.
"I'd like to thank the NSW Government for their funding and look forward to seeing the works completed."
Get NSW Active 2022 received 474 applications from Councils across the state with 125 Greater Sydney projects and 158 regional projects receiving funding.
