Council will look to secure more than $1 million from the Federal Government to help fund to program to mitigate flooding in the high-risk priority catchment of Saltwater Creek.
The project – Managing Current and Future Flood Hazards in Saltwater Creek: A partnership approach to improving the resilience of a tropical urban catchment – would include the development of a masterplan to guide future flood mitigation measures and an upgrade of drainage in Iona Close, Edge Hill.
The upgrade of drainage infrastructure in Iona Close is expected to reduce flooding at 18 properties and lessen the risks associated with fast flowing flood waters.
Council will submit an application to the National Recovery and Resilience Agency's Preparing Australian Communities – Local Stream Program for $1.025 million, half of the estimated cost of the project, which would be delivered over three years, from 2022/23 to 2024/25.
