Funding To Deliver Sports Precinct Vision

Orange Council

Orange City Council has welcomed an announcement that the Albanese Government will contribute $15 million to the Orange Regional Sports Precinct and Parklands project.

♦ In short: The Federal Government grants $15 million towards the Orange Sports Precinct.

♦ The extra funding removes the risk that the project could be scaled back.

♦ What's next: The field will be ready for the next cricket season . The overall project is expected to be complete in early 2027.

The funding is part of the Government's Growing Regions Program, which provides funding to local government for community infrastructure projects.

Orange Mayor Tony Mileto said the funding means the original vison for the project can be delivered.

"It's great news and I thank the Albanese Government for its support. It will mean we can increase the size of the grandstand in the John Davis Stadium. It will ensure the athletics track and facilities are delivered to a very high standard. The carpark and landscaping will also now

meet the aims of a parkland setting," Cr Mileto said.

Cr Mileto said these are challenging projects and everywhere across Australia budgets for capital works are under cost pressure.

"This Federal funding on top of NSW Government's $59.5 million support will mean that this once in a generation project will meet the community expectations," he said.

"Council has already ramped up progress and that won't change. We are full steam ahead and the finish date is still the end of 2026 early 2027."

Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, Catherine King said:

"Quality infrastructure in regional areas is invaluable and this funding will build and upgrade key facilities that can be enjoyed by communities for years to come. As social interactions change, community infrastructure is more important than ever, which is why the Albanese

Labor Government is investing in projects that provide spaces for communities to gather and rebuild social connection."

Member for Calare Andrew Gee welcomed the announcement.

"The funding to Orange City Council for the Orange Regional Sports Precinct means that the original vision for the project can now be fulfilled. Key components such as full spectator seating, the grandstand for the athletic track, and sealing and upgrading of car parks and

roads, which were looking doubtoul because of rising building costs will now be completed," Mr Gee said.

"No corners will have to be cut which means this an outstanding result. The new precinct is going to be a massive boost for the city's sportspeople and sporting cubs. The local and national events and carnivals that will be held there will deliver the area a very significant

economic shot in the arm."

Cr Mileto said the project was a great example of the three tiers of government working together to deliver for the Orange community.

"I'd like to thank the Albanese Government, Minister King and Member for Calare and the NSW Government and Member for Orange Phil Donato for sharing our vision for the precinct," he said.
