Ararat Rural City Council have successfully secured funding to support repair works to the former Cobb & Co Staging Stables in Buangor, which sustained water damage during the October 2022 floods.
Constructed in the 1860s, the former Cobb & Co Staging Stables served as a coach and livery station. In recent years, this bluestone building has become a popular venue for weddings, birthdays, and other community events.
Proposed repair works to the state heritage-listed site will include replacing damaged guttering, downpipes, and roofing to prevent future water damage from extreme weather events.
The repair works will prioritise safeguarding the site's cultural heritage, improving flood risk
management, and support community resilience and heritage appreciation.
The project is supported by up to $60,000 in funding received from the State Government's Disaster Recovery Heritage Grants Program.
Launched last year, the grant program aims to help repair and restore affected heritage sites impacted by extreme weather events, in particular small community organisations that require greater support.
"The Cobb & Co Staging Stables are an iconic landmark in Buangor" says Mayor of Ararat Rural City Council, Cr Jo Armstrong.
"This restoration project will ensure that this valuable historical asset and important piece of our local heritage is preserved for the long-term enjoyment of the community."
